Chawntay Barrett (she/her) is an emerging visual artist and community arts practitioner originally from Toronto, Canada, and now based in London, UK. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph (2020) and a Graduate Certificate in Arts Management from Centennial College (2025).
Community lies at the heart of her creative practice. A former participant of the ArtWorksTO Next Stream program and The Remix Project, she has developed a strong foundation in community arts and cultural engagement, experiences that continue to inform her work.
Working primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas, Chawntay explores themes of Afro-Caribbean culture and contemporary Black experiences. Her work reflects an ongoing dialogue between identity, culture, and the evolving narratives of the African diaspora, translating diasporic stories into a visual language that is both personal and universally resonant. As she begins this new chapter in London, she continues to build a practice rooted in storytelling, cultural memory, and connection.
